Computer Crash… again

Saturday morning my desktop machine was down when I woke up.  I must have hit the button a dozen times in the fleeting hope that it would magically startup again.  This is the same machine that died earlier this year.  I wanted to get started working on it right away, but I had to cut the grass before it got too hot.

The day before I heard a pop in the room, but everything electronic was working just fine, so I thought it was something that fell.  Apparently I was wrong.

When I did get to working on the computer later that day I started with my media machine.  I swapped in components in and out of a known working machine.  All the components seemed to be fine.  So I put everything back in the original box and moved the power supply over from my media machine.  Lo and behold, it lives.  I really like that power supply over the cheap supply that came with the case, the machine is much quieter now.  So I ordered 2 more from newegg.

  1. Bad power supplies are really hard to debug. If your computer has “unclean power” you’ll never figure it out until you replace the power supply. I hope you have learned your lesson :-) Always buy nice name brand power and you should be ok. Not a guarantee, but much better than getting no-name super cheap.
